Eligible Pinellas County senior citizens have until May 31 to receive assistance paying their energy bills through the Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program. Funding for the program was made available to Pinellas County through the Area Agency on Aging of Pasco-Pinellas Inc. The program is administered by the county Health and Human Services Department.
Seniors who need help paying their energy bills must apply by May 31 to be considered for funding. The Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program helps low-income seniors pay electric, gas and fuel bills and helps pay for repairs to heating equipment. Vouchers may be available for portable heaters, fans and blankets.
Eligible households can receive benefits twice a year, once in the heating season and once in the cooling season, for up to a maximum of $600.
“We have funds available to help citizens with their energy bills and we are urging them to apply quickly,” said Cliff Smith, acting director of Pinellas County Health and Human Services, stressing the May 31 deadline for distributing the funds. “We want to make sure we help as many people as possible.”
