The City gets a relatively large number of suits against us (you) because a few people think we (the commission) have conversations in the shade (out of the Florida Sunshine Laws) meetings that we are not supposed to have. Shade meetings exist so we can discuss, among a few other things, legal strategy as it relates to ongoing legal cases.
For instance, a fairly recent lawsuit was brought by Bruce Kadoura via his lawyer Ken Weiss (surprise) about a shade meeting we held discussing our trying to settle the lawsuits they have brought against us (you). We have decided to release this transcript and others because 1) we have nothing to hide, 2) the benefit of having the specific discussion shielded in a tactical way is no longer important, and 3) it shows what a waste of time and money it is for Weiss and his clients to harass us (you) this way. We would like to stay out of court and therefore, regardless of their continual lawsuits, save you, the taxpayers, some money.
In my constant attempt to provide transparent government I thought you might like to read shade meeting transcripts as they become available. All of them will be public record at the conclusion of the lawsuits and appeals that they discussed. But, we believe sooner is better to keep you informed.
They can get a bit long and boring but you can at least see some of the factors we consider as we try to protect your vote, be fair to our residents, keep your tax dollars conserved, and generally do the right thing. I'd be glad to talk to anyone about our discussions. I will try to set them here by date.
